(Lecture, Apr 3) Using the Coordination Chemistry Toolbox to Tackle Societal Issues
time: 2018-03-28

Title: Using the Coordination Chemistry Toolbox to Tackle Societal Issues
Speaker: Prof. Carl Redshaw (University of Hul)
Time: 10:00-12:00a.m., Apr. 3rd, 2018
Venue: Room 105, Shaw Engineering Building, Wushan Campus
[Abstract]
By manipulating the versatile coordination chemistry of the calix[n]arene family (see figure), it is possible to isolate highly active catalysts for ?-olefin homo (and co-)polymerizations [1] and for the ring opening polymerization (ROP) of cyclic esters. [2] This allows access to polymers with new properties including biodegradation.

The same ligand set can also be used to construct metal organic frameworks (MOFs) for gas storage [3] and allows for the monitoring of cellular uptake of metal agents. [4]
