SCUT launched the admission reform of 631 Comprehensive Evaluation, covering 8 majors, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Molecular Science and Engineering, Microelectronic Science and Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated System, Artificial Intelligence, and Data Science and Big Data Technology. All freshmen admitted to the 8 majors would finish their four-year study in GZIC.

13,369 freshmen from 61 countries and regions attended the SCUT Opening Ceremony 2020 on the three campuses accordingly. The ceremony marking the start of the 2^nd phase construction of SCUT was successfully held. Attendees in the main venue included the Zhang Shuofu, Secretary of Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC, Wen Guohui, Mayor, Chen Zhiying, Executive Vice Mayor, and Zhang Xichun, Chairman of the University Council of SCUT. Attendees in the branch venue included Gao Song, President of SCUT, Chen Dejun, Head of Panyu District, Qi Huaien, Deputy Director of Guangzhou Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, Lin Zhaoyuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Yuexiu Real Estate, and Jiang Jianduan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Director and General Manager of the 5^th China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

Standing out of 110 universities across China, GZIC was successfully listed to run the pilot project of comprehensive management model of “one-stop” student community. Zhang Wenbin, Deputy Director of Department of Moral Education of Ministry of Education, attended the unveiling ceremony.

GZIC Opening Ceremony 2019 was successfully held. Zhang Shuofu, Zhang Hu and Zhang Shaokang, the leaders of Guangdong Provincial Government, Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Zhang Xichun, Chairman of the University Council, and Gao Song, President of SCUT, attended the ceremony. Attendees also included guests from HKUST, University of Macao, University of Western Australia, Polytechnic University of Turin, Nanyang Technological University and other cooperative universities and institutions.

The signing ceremony for the delivery of the 1^st-phase assets of GZIC between Guangzhou Municipal Government and SCUT was held in D3. Wang Dong, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou Municipal Government, Zhang Xichun, Chairman of the University Council and Gao Song, President of SCUT, attended the ceremony.

Tao Shaojing, Vice Chairman of the University Council, led a delegation to Ghent University, KU Leuven, the University of Edinburgh and Oxford, during which three university-level cooperation memorandums were signed.

Huai Jinpeng, Secretary of the CPC Leading Group and Chief Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), visited SCUT to investigate the development of GZIC.

The basement structure project of 100 thousand square meters of the 1st phase was completed in only 100 days, marking the concentrated construction of the main structure of the 1^st phase.

The Agreement on the Establishment of Guangzhou International Campus of South China University of Technology was signed in Beijing by four parties, the Ministry of Education, Guangdong Provincial Government, Guangzhou Municipal City and South China University of Technology.
