Led by Prof. Ji Jing who was the vice director of Department of Civil Engineering, 10 excellent undergraduates of Civil Engineering and teachers of Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Engineering Management visited Arup Group (Shenzhen) for the writing of Bachelor's thesis proposal on March 4, 2015.
At the beginning of seminar, Professor Ji introduced the requirement and arrangement of graduation projects to undergraduates, especially to those of Excellence Class, and elaborated the reform and implement of the graduation project. Mr Jiangmin, Arup (Shenzhen) General Manager, and Mr. Wang Yang, its Chief Engineer, describes the purpose and plan of their guidance of graduation projects. They hoped Arup-SCUT cooperation could bring new education philosophy to SCUT, thus making a better combination between education offered by school and engineering practice and innovation.
In group discussion, students and instructors of each group carry out a discussion of the significance and the design process of graduation projects, and Dr. Ricky Tsui, Director of Arup (Hong Kong) also rushed to Shenzhen to participate in the discussion.
After the meeting, SCUT teachers and students felt the working atmosphere of visited Arup (Shenzhen), an internationally renowned design company.
SCET Double-tutor System, tutors from both SCET and companies, is a new model used for the graduation design of the first Civil Engineering Excellence Class. Directors of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou branches of Arup all involved in the guiding of graduate design, helping students choose the titles of design and write mission statement.
