SCET students' good perform in finding aseismic primitive buildings in rural areas

Anzhu Plan, a contest of solicit articles about aseismic primitive buildings in rural areas, completed in the early of May. It was initiated by RBS Architectural Engineering Design Associates (RBS) with its RBSf fund. Guided by Professor Ji Jing and undertaken by undergraduates Hou Zhaorong, Qiu Jinshan, Wang Bo, Shen Wenjie, Jing Xu, and Jia Shan, Investigation and Seismic Analysis of Lijiang Naxi Houses won the first prize with 6000-yuan rewards. Under the guidance of Professor Han Xiaolei and lecturer Guo Wenying, Wu Peijun and Zhang Zheng got the third prize with 3000-yuan rewards by their work named Seismic Analysis and Protection Programs of Kekecuo in Xunpu Vallege, Quanzhou City.


Carrying out research in Lijiang

  Teams were requested to make good preparations and choose a place to make investigations and researches in the five-month contest. The two teams are composed of tudents from SCET and School of Architecture made their investment and research in Lijiang City, Yunnan Province and Quanzhou City, Fujian Province on winter vacation. They conducted a detailed survey of structure, usage, anti-earthquake measures of local native residential buildings, and chose a representative residential construction to make field mapping. Then analysis reports with high quality were made and highly praised by the experts.


Carrying out research in Quanzhou

  The contestants were students of department of Civil Engineering or Architecture from over 10 universities, such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Southeast University. Investigations and researches of the adobe structure, stone structure, wood structure, brick, brick and concrete structure, frame structure of Chinese traditional and modern houses were made in Yunnan, Gansu, Fujian, Qinghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Hebei, Guangdong, Shandong, and Henan. Team players held a closer look at the diversity of traditional houses in different areas and the wisdom of ancient people. The campaign showed civil engineering students' passion, innovation, social response and humanism, and also aroused the attention of anti-earthquake measures to houses in rural areas or towns.
