Abstract:
To solve the problem of water ecology, water resources, water environment, water safety and water culture brought by urban construction, construction of ‘Sponge City’ is necessary to China. In recent years, driven by changing patterns of urban development and stimulating domestic demand, China is carrying out the construction of sponge cities comprehensively, and 2 batches of cities, more than 30 in total, were approved as pilot sponge cities. Based on the theory of sustainable and low-impact development, this report will detailedly expound the connotation, constructing ideas and methodology of ‘Sponge City’ with cases and introduce the key technology of constructing multi-scale ‘sponge’ in ecological stormwater management and urban ecological construction.
Speaker Introduction:
Dr. Yiping Guo is a senior professor on Water Resource and Environment Engineering in Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, McMaster University. Department of Civil Engineering of McMaster University is among the best in North America, usually being called as MIT in Canada by US counterparts and industrial circles. Dr. Yiping Guo is also the professional engineer in Canada, engaging in studies and practices of stormwater management, sustainable and low-impact development, channel restoration for a long time. The past 2 years, Dr. Guo was invited to guide the construction of sponge city in Jinan(one of the first batch of sponge cities) , Shanghai and Fuzhou(one of the second batch of sponge cities), respectively.
