On November 24 of 2020, the academic lecture titled of “The Risk Mechanism of Traffic Operation and its Control and Prevention Technologies” has been delivered by Prof. Zhongyin Guo at the conference room 604 of Jiaotong Building at South China University of Technology. Prof. Guo is from the School of Transportation Engineering at the Tongji University. More than 180 participants have attended this lecture, including many faculty from the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, such as Prof. Xingsha Fu, Prof. Duanyi Wang, Assoc. Prof. Xiaofei Wang, Assoc. Prof. Lijuan Zhang, Assoc. Prof. Yonghong Yang, and senior engineer Duoqi Li from the Department of Road Engineering, and Assoc. Prof. Weiwei Qi, Assoc. Prof. Yingying Ma, and Assoc. Prof. Qiang Zeng from from the Department of Transporation. The vice dean of our school, Prof. Jing Ji, welcomed Prof. Guo’s visit and briefly introduced Prof. Guo's research field and academic achievements.
Prof. Guo started his lecture from the following three aspects: the risk of road traffic operation, risk formulation of road traffic operation, and how to prevent and control the risk of traffic operation. He introduced several representative research findings from his research team, such as the driving risk, catastrophic event-induced risk, event-state risk, operation risk test method, subjective risk and traffic behavior risk of road users, risk consequences, risk field, traffic operation risk dissemination, road network traffic guidance, and etc. At the end, he also introduced several examples of practical projects corresponding to his research, such as the warning systems for Shanghai-Nanjing expressway and long longitudinal slope highway, and topological structures for Qingdao Bay Bridge and Hangzhou Bay Bridge. In addition, Prof. Guo discussed about the future work for developing the risk mechanism of traffic operation and its prevention and control technologies.
Both the faculty members and students have taken this opportunity to discuss with Prof. Guo. Prof. Xincsha Fu from the Department of Road Engineering shared his recent research findings with Prof. Guo and all other participants on the traffic safety and intelligent transportation. Our faculty members and students expressed their thanks to Prof. Guo with rapturous applause.

Dr. Zhongyin Guo is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Transportation Engineering of the Tongji University. His main research areas include pavement engineering and materials, and road safety engineering. He was appointed as the dean of the School of Transportation Engineering of theTongji University. He also serves as a committee member of the Technical Committee 3.1 of World Road Association (PIARC), associate editor of The International Journal of Road Materials and Pavement Design, chief editor of The International Journal of Transportation Science and Technology, associate editor of The International Journal of Advance in Transportation Studies, editor of safety area of Journal of Transportation Safety and Security.
