Abstract:This workshop aims to improve science graduate students’ ability in scientific English writing. We will cover the following topics. For each topic, we will focus on three aspects: the purpose, the structure and language features.
· Writing the Abstract
· Writing the Introduction
· Writing the Literature Review
· Writing the Methods
· Writing the Results
· Writing the Discussion
· Writing the Conclusion
In this workshop, we will also discuss the practical ways of improving general English skills.
Biography:HUANG Yue Yuan has an MA in TESOL and a doctorate degree in linguistics, both from State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA. She has worked for 22 years in the Language Centre, Hong Kong Baptist University. She was the principal investigator (PI) of four research projects funded by Research Grants Council of Hong Kong and Language Fund of Hong Kong. As a principal supervisor, she has supervised three PhD students to completion in the area of second language acquisition and has also supervised 17 master’s theses in language studies. Since 2014, she has been working as the consultant for the English Program of the Institute for Advanced Study in Shenzhen University. Her research interest is in second language acquisition and her current research focuses on College English teaching and academic English writing.
