报告摘要:

Since the first report of a multilayer OLED by Tang and Van Slyke in 1987, we started OLED research in 1989 in Yamagata.  The first OLED was based on terbium complex-based green device showing emission from multiplet excited state.  Then polymer-based OLEDs became our main target and white OLEDs were developed.  White OLEDs using vacuum evaporation was also developed and it became the starting point toward the OLED lighting research.  The performance of OLEDs has also been steadily improved.  Starting from fluorescent materials, phosphorescent materials were introduced by Forrest and Thompson, EQE of white OLED has also been improved up to 30-40 lm/W.  Tandem OLEDs were first reported by our group at SID in 2003. By using such tandem structures, high luminance and long lifetime became possible.  In 2011, Lumiotec released the first OLED lighting panels. And later, LG started manufacturing large-size OLED display panels using tandem white and color filters.  Today, a variety of OLED display products are in the market.  The next step for OLED is to reduce the production cost.  To this end, we have kept working on solution processable OLEDs in order to realize 120-inch wallpaper display. Recent progress and the future prospects of OLED will be discussed.
