Background
Dr. Junyong Zhu joined the US Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory in February 2003 as a project leader a-nd later was selected as a scientific team leader. Before working for the Forest Products Laboratory, Dr. Zhu was a faculty member at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (now Part of Georgia Institute of Technology), Atlanta, GA, for about 10 years, where he advised more than a dozen graduate students to successful completion of their doctorate and masters degrees. Dr. Zhu has expertise in biomass refining and processing, fiber resource-s and properties, pulping, paper recycling and fiber and paper physics. He has published over 80 referred journal papers and delivered more than 60 presentations at various international conferences . He was a recipient of the IPST President’s Scientific Innovation Award in 1999. He was a nominee of U.S. Forest Service Chief’s award in 2-006. He has served as principal investigator for many projects funded by various state and federal governments, and I-PST member companies. Dr. Zhu is the co-inventor of several U.S. patents.
